about

Dear friends!
The ensemble of orthogonal music The Fathers of Good Sounds, in collaboration with the musicologist Alexander Nevsky, is pleased to announce the publication of the second volume of the musical-mythological study of the oeuvre of Anatoly Andreev, a composer from the Pushkin Hills district of the Pskov region, our fellow countryman and contemporary. Little known to the general public, the composer Andreev from Issa village, is one of the key figures of the academic underground scene of Opochka, Novorzhev, and the Pushkin Hills. Andreyev’s creative works have been favorably received by domestic and foreign musicians and musical critics. We are hoping that our project will give you, dear friends, an opportunity to appreciate Andreyev’s music — its ideational richness, its continuity with folk culture, its high humanity and the elegance of its forms — and to learn something new: about music, about the world, and about yourselves.
Those of you who are familiar with the first volume of your investigations already have some notion of Andreyev’s adventures in the realms of Pskov; for those who have missed out, we would like to note that it contains adventurous, mysterious, and even erotic stories. Indeed, Andreyev’s work is engaged in a lively dialogue with our contemporary moment, and is as accessible to the general public as is the creator himself — indeed, anyone can catch a bus at the station in Pushkin Hills and take a ride to the Issa village to see how the composer is doing. However, it is not certain that he will be at home — when he was giving us his blessing to record the songs presented hereby, Anatoly exclaimed: “Neither jazz, nor porn!”, drank immediately, and disappeared in the plains of Pskov.

From the ancient times, the ensemble The Fathers of the Good Sounds has been bringing the Afro-Slavic rhythms of freak-n-roll to the humanity from the plains and hills of Pskov. The Fathers have gained some unhealthy popularity, largely because of their infamous performances in village clubs, port brothels, cafes at railway stations, charity marathons and local poetry contests. Brian Eno has famously characterised the Fathers’ music as “never heard”, and indeed this music makes cactuses bloom, children dance, and everyone else smile. The Fathers’ creative production contains elements of instrumental hooliganism, psychoanalytical melodicism and erotic adventures. The band’s goals are not so much aesthetic as they are conceptual and educational. The Fathers aim at bringing harmony to the world by popularizing the musical works of their fellow countryman and contemporary, the composer Anatoly Andreyev from the Pushkin Hills district of the Pskov region. In a close cooperation with the famous Pskov-based musicologist A. Nevsky, The Fathers Of Good Sounds conduct musical-mythological investigations of Andreyev’s life and work.

The famous ensemble "The Fathers of Good Sounds" (Russian "Отцы Хороших Звуков") since olden days brings to the mankind afro- slavic rhythms of freak-n-roll music from Pskov region. Our music makes cactuses blossom, children dance and all the other beings smile. We like uneven rhythms and instrumental hooliganism. ... more
