Famous for his negative opinions about holidays, on the New Year’s Eve Andreyev closes himself in his little closet in the attic of the village club, alone, and endlessly listens to the melody of Jingle Bells, played in reverse direction. At some point, according to Andreyev’s recollection, something strange happens: as if he sees a black Grandfather Frost, climbing down from the sky to a Pacific beach, sitting on a sleigh with two iguanodons put to it, with a bucket full of whiskey in his hands. A new inspiration, fresh as the Greek youth of humanity, captures composer’s mind, and the poetry of Archilochus, powerful like an echo rolling across the seashores, howls down the hoarse moans of the Muse, so familiar to him. Thus the piece “Santa Goes To Sea” was born, in which the austere sounds of post-electro-clash combine with the glamorous and nasty motives of neo-pop.
