Andreyev’s later work bears the mark of the sharp irony toward contemporary civilization. Anna Petrovna’s postmodernist views are a likely influence here, especially her voluminous monograph “Bourdieu and the problems of gender sociality in rural areas” which was selling like hotcakes right after its publication. Indeed, the observable deterioration of rural life and the triumph of consumer culture provoke a rather sad line of thinking. As has been said by a poet, “Money, like vodka, turn a person into a weirdo” — Andreyev attempts to convey a similar thought in his piece “Sunburger”, where he sarcastically compares McDonald’s as a symbol of contemporary way of life, to an ancient solar cult. And yet, despite the bitterness of conclusions, the composer’s worldview remains full of light and joy, and hopeful that in fact, people need neither hamburgers nor idols, but the Earth as a whole, the entire Nature, as a vast space where human beings could reveal all their capacities and capabilities of their free spirit.
